How I led a company from canoe to yacht

When a friend asked me to help repair his sinking educational content startup, I dove in headfirst. Within a year, Corpedia Inc. (http://www.corpedia.com) was not only seaworthy, but the largest ship in the water. Here’s what I did.

Years ahead of the competition, I concepted and deployed a methodology for Corpedia to rapidly produce high quality, Flash-based courseware using only junior developers. This led to a sustainable ten-fold increase in annual output — without dialing in additional staff.

On the sales and marketing side, I transformed Corpedia’s anemic newsletter into a full-blown for-profit magazine, Ethisphere (http://www.ethisphere.com), aimed at the legal compliance industry. Today, it has a circulation orbiting 50k and generates significant revenue through ad and subscription sales. More important, it provides a closed-circuit pipeline for Corpedia to quietly pitch services directly to their target market — without noise from competitors.
